Swim Swim Swim As Fast As You Can!

Doing my fears this month, in case you missed day one.

Day 23: Water

Rate on the scary scale from 1-10: 5

Let my preface this with, I have a vivid imagination.

I don't like it when my feet don't touch the bottom of the pool. I can swim, I'm not afraid of drowning. I'm afraid of the shark that lives in the deep end.

When the hubs took me on a date to uh... can't remember where it was exactly, but it was a pool with a slide that dumped you into the 12 ft deep end. I wanted to go on the slide, and it was early in our relationship so I was trying to impress him with how cool I was, so I went on it with him.

When I landed in the deep end, I surfaced and swam like a mad woman to the 4 ft area. Because if I didn't swim fast enough, I'd be eaten by the pool shark.

I don't know why I thought the hubs wouldn't notice my flailing to the other end of the pool. Or why I thought if he did notice, that would be so sexy of me. So when he caught me around my waist, I squealed, my imagination going crazy and thinking I'd met my demise via shark attack.

He laughed and asked what the rush was. I'm a horrid liar so I told him the truth. The shark that lives in the deep end was gonna eat me and I had to get the heck out of there.

Because he already knew me really well, he knew I was serious about this and patted my head as if to say "I love all your weirdness".

And yet, it doesn't stop him from mentioning the pool shark every time we go swimming.

Lol! I know what you mean. I'm not scared of a shark, but I always have this dark, lurking feeling that some monster or something will grab my legs and pull me under.

Your hubs sounds pretty great. :-)

I feel like that in the ocean. Not because of sharks (though I really should have a healthier fear of those, since every once in awhile we have shark attacks near me (and by every once in awhile, I mean, like, two a century)), but because of jellyfish. Jellyfish scare the crap out of me.

The pool I go in is only 4 feet deep, so I don't have to worry about anything except old Band-Aids or other gross stuff on the bottom of that.

What a great guy you've got there :-) It's always a worry how much weirdness to share!

Pool shark? That's a new one for me, at least YOUR meaning of the Great White variety. You and the Hubs must have been meant for each other.

I guess the wave pool at a water park is out of the question then.

And does hubs make the Jaws sounds too? I'm afraid, I'm with him--I wouldn't be able to resist either.

Will you (have you) ever swim in the ocean?

The shark attack pic is hilarious! Wouldn't it be interesting if that were possible! LOL

I only worry about deep water when I am in the ocean. If I go too far out and my feet don't touch, I panic, but I never flail, they say that attracts sharks. Swim calmly to shore.

I love the water, despite my opinion that it is, without a doubt, the most destructive force on this planet. Think about it. Wind takes years and years to erode a mountain. Throw a dead body into the water, it's bloated within a day, beyond recognition. How do you put out fire? In most cases, throw water on it. Why does the ground get hard in the winter? The water content in the ground freezes. Ground is too hard to till the garden? Add water to soften it.

These are the things I think about.

You realize, of course, you're not safe out of the pool, because you have to watch out for the Land shark. http://snltranscripts.jt.org/76/76flandshark.phtml Sadly, can't find a video clip of it anywhere.

You'd think you would be afraid of drowing because we almost did! Oh wait, that was my head below the water, keeping you above it!

I was afraid of the pool shark...when I was FOUR. :) Haha. Actually, I've swam by sharks in the ocean now, so I lost that fear a long time ago. Your husband is adorable. :)

T Drecker: Oh yes! It doesn't have to be a shark, it could be any monster!

Jackie: LOL, I'll make sure to tell him. :)

Suzi: Sometimes, lol. And I've never swam in the ocean. But I have been there :)

Jack: Interesting? That would be horrifying!!! Haha!

Becki: I was gonna say, I was just fine. It was you that was under the water. ;)

Ilima: You've swam with them?? AGH! Ya, there's no way I could do that.

Hahahahahaha! I don't know if I believe in the pool shark (I do believe in the lake monster and the river creature and or course the ocean shark that is waiting just for me underneath the sand), but I swim super fast to the shallow end too! I like it when my feet are on the ground when I'm in the water :) That picture is awesome too!

I'm afraid of the lake creatures or pool snakes!

LOL! I used to do the same thing in our pool! And I wouldn't even think about doing that at night :) Glad I'm not the only one. Thanks for sharing. BTW that pic is terrifying!!

Someday I want to meet your hubby and give him a high five! LOL.

It's probably -why- he married you. I mean, he has something to mention on just about any occasion, right?

This makes me want to go hit the pool! Grew up around pools and ocean, mind you. I don't remember pool sharks, but my sister always talked about mermaids and creatures that would eat you if you pee in the pool. Talk about MG fodder. :)

That picture made me laugh out loud! I've always been good water--as long as I could see the bottom.

Marta Szemik said...

LOL! I don't think I'm going to look at a pool the same way again after that picture!

True story! I do the same thing every time. Especially at night. My family loves swimming at night, even though they have those cheesy pale lights and you can see the whole pool--I know that the pool shark is there watching me from a corner somewhere.

LOL. Too funny. :)

That is so funny.I think Jaws forever ruined many people's love of the water. Funny part is I'll scuba dive in 80feet sea water and be fine on the bottom, but leave me floating at the surface and I tend to get a little nervous myself.

Too cute! I'm going to have a pool shark too now that you had to go put the thought in my head!
