An Uppercut to the Nuts

Doing my fears this month, in case you missed day one.

Day 15: Oompa Loompas

Rate on the scary scale from 1-10: 5

This is a hereditary fear I believe. Both of my sisters and myself have to hide our faces during Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory when the song starts to play.

Don't even start singing it, I will smack you!

Okay, these 'people' have orange faces, green hair, and white eyebrows. Not to mention they cart kids away and you never see them again! (PS, I'm talking the original movie here. The Oompa Loompas in the Tim Burton version did not creep me out. Nor did those songs.)

I have to give myself props though. Growing up, a few friends knew this fear of mine and one of their brothers dressed up as an oompa loompa for Halloween. He kept singing to me and had me cowering in the corner till I'd had enough.

I socked him straight in the balls.

He keeled over and started crying, and ya, I had the poor kid afraid of ME for the rest of high school. (Yes high school. Do not judge.)

Oompa loompas went down on the scary scale for me since that event. Though I'm not sure I can say the same for my sisters. :)

PS: will be posting today at the DOJO. And I have to give a huge THANK YOU to everyone who follows my posting at this blog and the other two I contribute to. I really appreciate your support! (Ya, I'm getting a little sappy today.)

  2. You know, I tried to sing (hey, you asked about the Jersey Shore yesterday ;) ), but I couldn't figure out how to spell the song, lol. But, aw, I kind of love the original Oompa Loompas (and their songs). They make me giggle.

  3. Original Oompa Loompas definitely wigged me out as a kid. However, the sock to the nuts scares me more, having experienced it on more than one occasion in my life.

  4. I'm singing the song... right now... yes I am. (Okay, not really cause I don't know it. But I would if I could cause I live too far away for you to smack me.)

  5. They are creepy little dudes, but the one in Johnny Depp's version creeped me out more. LOL
Now that I mention it, Johnny Depp freaked me out, too! And I heart him, but that movie was, er, yikes.

  6. LOL Wilder's Wonka scared me more than the oompa loompas did - although as a kid I did used to have nightmares about them coming to steal me away. *shudders*

  7. I am not sure where I would rate oompa's unless I saw one run through the house in the middle of the night.

  8. I agree with Rachel - Willie Wonka is scarier. Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp both came off pretty pedophiliac to me. And I love Johnny Depp, but I can't watch that version. Gene Wilder's bad enough: "Come inside, children, and lick my candy." GROSS!

    :)

  9. I hated the wizard of oz. Scared the bejeebies out of me. Still don't like that movie. I like Willy Wonka, especially the oompa loompas. Those kids they carted away were annoying! I'd love to have a staff of oompa loompas who could come and cart the annoying people out of my life!

  10. Now I just need someone to dress up as a frog and let me kick him the groin. I'd love to be less scared of those creepy creatures.

  11. See I'm the opposite. The new version FREAKED me out too much and the old is awesome:)

  12. I have a funny story about the oompa loompa just behind Willie Wonka's left shoulder. It's not a story I want to admit in public, but you should email me about it. You'll laugh. :P

  13. Oompa loompas are not faves either. Just get me to the chocolate scenes!

  14. That is an awesome story, you show those Oompa loompas! And I agree that they are quite creepy.

  15. You go, girl! Kick that Oompa Loompa's tush (or nuts) and take no prisoners. :D

  16. Hehehehe....*gasping*....hahahahah...*snorting*...bawhahahah...*fell off the chair*!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Oh, that poor boy. I'll bet he doesn't try and scare people now. You never can tell how a truly frightened person will react.

Did you feel bad at all for overreacting? ;)

  18. Oompa Loompas!?

    I can't help it...

    "Oompa loompa doompety doo"

    Ok, ok, I give, sorry!

  19. That boy deserved it. Don't scare your sibs friends. But seriously OOmpa Loompas? I just think you can kick them. The Tim Burton ones seem more dangerous. Not scary mind you, but I think they'd know how to seek revenge way better than the original orange ones.

  20. I hate those little guys. They're almost like Munchkins, but creepier.

  21. I will not sing this to you, again. I'm pretty sure I did one day on Twitter. These guys were me and my sister's fav and we loved doing the songs.

  22. It has not gotten better for me. It doesn't help that my husband has informed all of my nieces and nephews of the fear and now they sing the song to me. Unfortunately, I don't think it would bode well for my status as best auntie if I socked my nephew in the nuts!

  24. Oooh, they are creepy. But that was one of the reasons why Willy Wonka was so good! :) Still remains one of my all time fave books.

Nice connecting with you today, Cassie.

  25. This was entertaining and those Oompa Loompas look ghastly!

  26. totally reasonable!
whenever they showed, you knew it was because someone was in BIG trouble!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I get this. They are creepy, freaky things and it is for this reason only that I cannot watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... Or I at least leave the room when they sing.
    Guh....

    ReplyDelete
  28. That is hilarious! They are scary and I am glad you kicked that kid. :-)

  29. I hated Oompa Loompas when I was a kid. They are freaky little people.

Are you still enjoying your Kindle or did your husband manage to get it from you by now?

  30. I am still laughing from Saturday's anniversary post.
I'm guessing hubs was able to put his embarrassment aside once the hotel room door closed... :))

  31. LOL! That story is priceless! Yes, priceless! I love that you kicked him in the balls too. bahahaha. Poor kid! At least it knocked them down a notch on your "scary scale." :)

  32. You know, Oompa Loompas are the right size and the right color for Punkin Chunkin. Look for the videos. You're welcome.

Ilima: Do frogs have groins? Lol.

Sheena: I dunno... maybe they can have a wrestling match and we'll see who wins!

Becki: Just sock Andrew. It's his fault, lol. :)

    Tara: Yay for Willow!!!

    Liz: You too my dear!

TD: The picture gives me the heebees so bad!

Kathleen: Me too. Close eyes and cup ears!

    Emily: Thanks :)

  34. Tough girl! I was called an oompa loompa in a soccer game not too long ago by this rather large girl (think she was like 7 feet tall or something, so yeah, anyone probably looked like an oompa loomp to her!), I shoulda socked her in the balls!
